The Hidden History of Black Oregon

February 17, 2026

February is Black History Month, an opportunity to honor the great achievements and sacrifices made by Black Americans throughout US history. When it was officially recognized in 1976, the public was encouraged to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

The Hidden History of Black Oregon, brought to you by Brown Hope, is an online webinar that explores Oregon’s Black History. The presentation will be led by Brown Hope Founder and CEO, cameron whiten, followed by an audience Q/A.

(RSVP Here)

Topics will include:

  • The Birth of Oregon and Racial Exclusion Laws
  • Black Migration and NW Portland
  • The City of Vanport and the Flood
  • Albina, Redlining, and the Model Cities Program
  • Black Oregonians Who Made History
  • Current Events and Movements for Black Liberation
